KOVALAM
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Thiruvananthapuram is the capital of Kerala. The wooded
highlands on the Western Ghats in the eastern and
northeastern borders give Thiruvananthapuram some of the
most enchanting picnic spots. A long shoreline, with
internationally renowned beaches, historic monuments,
backwater stretches and a rich cultural heritage make it a
much sought after tourist destination.
SRI PADMANABHASWAMI TEMPLE :
The temple, located near the bus stand at East Fort, is the
city's most impressive landmark. Its 7 stored Gopuram built
in the 16th Century is one of the finest specimens of
traditional South Indian temple architecture which reflects
the Kerala influence.
The temple
corridors are lined with 368 sculpted stone pillars.
Beautiful murals and ornamentation adorn the walls. The
Maharaja of Thiruvithamcur renovated Temple in 1733. Only
Hindus can enter the temple, wearing dhoti in a certain
style.
SANKUMUGHAM BEACH : This
palm-fringed beach near the airport, with its indoor
recreation club and children's traffic training park is fine
for an outing-though not for swimming.
VELI TOURIST VILLAGE :
This picnic spot, where the Veil Lake meets the Arabian Sea,
offers boating facilities. Pedal boats and paddleboats can
be hired to explore the charms of the lagoon in a leisurely
manner. For a quick ride over the waters, speedboats are
available for hire. Children enjoy climbing over the huge
sculptures which dot the landscape.
KOVALAM : A
beautiful, curving, palm-fringed beach of golden sands
and safe bathing have made India's major beach resort.
It is an internationally known holiday destination. This
natural bay is a safe sea-pool free from high waves and
surges - ideal for swimming, surfing and skiing. The
more adventurous can ride out into the sea on a
catamaran. Besides the ITDC's luxury hotel complex,
several other hotels have sprung up on the hillsides
overlooking the beach, taking advantage of the Kovalam
boom.
Among the many other
attractions here are water sports, a theatre that stages
traditional Kathakali dance dramas,
a yoga center and facilities for traditional oil bathing
and massages according to the ancient Kerala Ayurveda
system

CHOWRA
BEACH :
The soft white sand is what that draws visitors to this
beach and it is ideal for beach volleyball. Many catamarans
dot the long stretch of beach; a country fishing boat, which
is three logs tied together in the shape of a boat.
PONMUDI : A must on
every tourist itinerary during their Kerala travel, Ponmudi
is a picturesque hill station of Kerala. A mere one and a
half hour's road journey separates the beaches of
Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) from the invigorating
climate of Ponmudi Hills. The name Ponmudi in Malayalam
means golden crown. On the way to Ponmudi, the thick
tropical forest greets one at the foot of the Ponmudi hill
range. The road passes under a canopy of thickly matted
foliage. The forest recedes gradually giving way to neatly
clipped tea bushes.
POOVAR : Poovar is a
small Island located very near to capital of Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram. Its patrons refer to Poovar as “Heaven
on Earth”. Poovar is a unspoilt and miraculously unexplored
place, With beautiful beaches and bright sun always
