Periyar River Lodge is situated at The Thattekad or Dr.
Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, named after the world-renowned
ornithologist, the late Dr. Salim Ali (1896-1987), is just
over one and a half hours drive from the port city of
Cochin(60 Kms). Dr Ali, often called the "Birdman of India,"
described Thattekad as the “birders paradise” with its teak,
mahogany and fruit-bearing trees that are home to nearly 270
species of birds. Periyar River Lodge is located on the lush green banks of the river Periyar,
adjoining the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary , the Periyar River Lodge is an ideal getaway for nature lovers,
bird watchers or just about anyone who needs a break from
the humdrum of urban life
Designed to synchronize with the ethnicity and traditional
style of Kerala architecture, this serene retreat, built
largely of teak wood, offers spacious guestrooms with a
large comfortable lounge as well as sunlit verandahs that
present an unhindered view of the river and the forest

Thattekad
With the Periyar River Lodge situated in the midst of
Thattekad Bird Sanctuary, bird watching is naturally one of
the main focus of activities at the lodge. A trip through
this sanctuary would certainly be a treat for any bird
watcher with its over 270 species in the relatively small
area of 25 sq kms.
The sanctuary, home most notably to the Malabar gray
hornbill, does have other exotic birds like the Ceylon
frogmouth, Malabar trogon, White-bellied treepie and
Heart-spotted woodpecker.
One should see the rare Mottled Wood Owl, Spot-bellied Eagle
Owl, Malayan Night Heron, Sri Lanka Frogmouth, Rusty-tailed
Flycatcher, Grey-headed Bulbul and the Nilgiri Wood Pigeon.

Tariff : Periyar River Lodge
Thattekad
The Lodge has 2 bedrooms, each of which is configured with
either a double bed or two single beds. Tariffs are based on
the number of rooms occupied and the occupancy in each room.

from a limited menu with options for both vegetarians and
non-vegetarians ( breakfast, lunch, evening tea & dinner is
included in the tariff ).
The Tariff excludes any
tour activities from the Lodge or evening campfires, for
which additional charges will be levied.
Children below the age of 5 will not be
charged. Children between the ages of 5 -12 years will be
charged half the rate.
The Tariff includes food on a fixed menu basis with options
for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians ( breakfast, lunch,
evening tea & dinner for each person is included in the
tariff ).
The Tariff excludes any tour activities from the Lodge or
evening campfires, for which additional charges will be
levied. Children below the age of 5 will not be charged.
Children between the ages of 5 -12 years will be charged

General Information
All activities and tours will be available subject to
operational conditions.
All activity and tour pricing is subject to change without
notice due to external factors.
It is compulsory to wear life-jackets provided by the lodge
during all rafting and canoeing activities.
The houseboat is not available for 3 months in the year,
from July to September. All other boating and rafting
activities are available throughout the year.
The forest tracks to the Peendimedu waterfalls may be
inaccessible on rare occasions when there are fallen trees
blocking the road.
The Periyar River Lodge will not be held responsible for any
damage or loss of personal property of the guests.
